Dear GeoMapApp user,
We are pleased to announce a new release, version 1.7.0. The new release
can be downloaded from:
http://www.geomapapp.org/
Click "Download Options", select your operating system, and click "AGREE"

************************** GeoMapApp 1.7.0 ***************************
*Important Updates*
- A North Polar stereographic projection view is now available using the
2 km grid node IBCAO v2 compilation as the primary basemap.
- ASCII grids can now be imported into both South and North Polar projections
(from main menu File >Import Grids).
- A new "Earthquake Focal Mechanism Solutions" data viewer is available via
"Custom Data Viewers" in the "Available Data" menu. This viewer displays
focal mechanism solutions of the Global CMT Catalog.
- The Scripps Institution of Oceanography ("SIOExplorer") collection is
now available from the "Bathymetry, Gravity and Magnetic Profiles" section
in the "Available Data >Custom Data Viewers" menu.
*Setting GeoMapApp Home Folder*
- Added warning to cancel button that encourages setting home directory
(home directory critical for important GeoMapApp functionality).
*GeoMapApp in Mac MenuBar*
- Name in MenuBar for Macs set to GeoMapApp.
*File Menu*
Connect to WFS:
- Replace all valid XML escape characters in URL strings within data fields
when loading data from a WFS.
- Added "Load for Current View" button to WFS window that will load data
from the current layer for the current view area of the map, also added
"Current view" option to the bounding box options which, when selected and
the "Load Feature" button is clicked, performs the same function.
- Connect to WMS (Web Map Service) now functional from Polar stereographic
map views.
Imported Data (Tables)
- Data points for imported data tables ("Imported Data (Tables)" area) are
now displayed based on their proximity to other data points (the closer the
data point to other data points, the lower its display priority), ensuring
a better distribution of displayed data points.
- Added graphing tool for URLs that link to valid ASCII table, user must
Ctrl-Shift-Click on URL to bring up table.
Import Grids
- Added option in "Confirm Projection & Bounds" window to add custom offset
to the grid z values.
- Offset and scale factor from files no longer automatically applied to
grid, they are now sent to the "Confirm Projection & Bounds" window so the
user can review them before they are applied.
- If the grid file header contains min/max z values, these are displayed in
the "Confirm Projection & Bounds" window.
Save Menu
- Images can now be saved as .bmp for best resolution.
- User can now remove map inset, map scale and color bar (and any other
insets) when saving images, user prompted if any of these are visible.
*Available Data Menu*
- In "Available Data", add different layers depending on map view (North
Polar, South Polar, Mercator), do not load focus sites (NSF Focus Sites)
unless in Mercator view.
Bathymetry, Gravity and Magnetics Profiles
- Access to the entire Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) collection
of underway trackline gravity, magnetics, and bathymetry is now available
by selecting "SIOExplorer". Access to the ADGRAV gravity trackline data is
now available through the U.S. Antarctic Program ("USAP") collection.
Multi-Channel Seismics
- Added digitizer to MCS interface, records longitude, latitude, two-way
travel time (in seconds), and CMP#.
Single Channel Seismics
- Replaced "time" with "cruise time (Unix seconds)" in output for SCS
digitizer.
- Imported grids no longer disappear when viewing a profile in SCS.
DSDP Interface
- Added sediment display to DSDP interface, displays available sediment data
for selected hole. It interacts with other DSDP interfaces (displays depth
line and zooms and scrolls with other DSDP interfaces).
*Places Menu*
- In polar projections removed High-Res grids and focus sites from "Places"
menu.
*New Data*
Many Antarctic and Southern Ocean datasets now accessible through General
Viewers> Layers interface:
British Antarctic Survey BEDMAP grids of Bed Elevation, Ice Thickness,
Surface Elevation, Grounded Ice Sheet Bed Elevation, Bathymetry
Amundsen Sea Bathymetry Grid of Nitsche et al., 2007
Ross Sea Bathymetry of Davey et al.
South Georgia Sea bathymetry from British Antarctic Survey (BAS)
AGASEA Sub Ice topography (Holt and Blankenship)
Multibeam bathymetry tracks from select cruise from BAS
Multibeam bathymetry tracks from Palmer cruises under proprietary hold
(<2 years)
Gravity and magnetic grids from the SOAR aerogeophysics campaigns
Global grids including most recent Smith and Sandwell topography and
gravity, Seafloor age (Muller et al., 2008), Sediment thickness (NGDC,
Divens et al., 2006) and Magnetic Anomaly Map (Maus et al., 2007).
LIMA Imagery: USGS Web Map Service for LIMA imagery accessible from
main menu View>Basemaps
The North Polar Stereographic Projection view is now available using the
IBCAO v2 - 2 km grid as the primary basemap. Higher resolution multibeam
bathymetry datasets will be added as obtained. Currently you can access the
AAGRUUK Alaska Margin data compilation from Edwards and colleagues.
A number of other Arctic region datasets are accessible through General
Viewers> Layers interface:
CCOM Law of the Sea Mapping Project bathymetric data sets for Gulf of
Alaska Slope off Mantague and Kayak Islands, Bowers Ridge Bering Sea,
Alaska Gulf, and Alaska Margin Bering Sea
DNAG Magnetic Anomaly Map of North America and Arctic
Navigation tracks for expeditions of the USCG Healy from 2001 to 2007.
